Celeb3 Editorial Intro

Welcome to the 26th edition of our humble but opinionated online magazine YOUTH!

You’re reading this in a technological epoch that’s rife with talk of alternate zuckerverses and NFTs, an age that has heralded in what they’re calling Web3, the third age of the internet.

This issue of YOUTH is NOT about that. Instead, we’ve identified a new age of our relationship with pop and celebrity culture, and in the name of some very cute titling, we’ve coined it Celeb3.

For this issue, we’ve brought the agile minds and witty pens of our new YOUTH team to explore several ideas under this umbrella!

Niamh Martin takes a look at meme culture and some of its more notable victims in The Memefication of Celebritopia. Ellen Corrigan brings us on an animated tour of celebrity gossip from past to very much present-day in From Rags to B*tches, Aimee Doyle observes the increasingly curated landscape of reality tv in Don’t be Hatin’ We’re just Curatin’, and Billy Bunzari looks at the allegation that Pop Culture Died in 2009, or Did it.

So take some time out of your day, and immerse yourself in our shiny pink hot takes on our relationships (parasocial or otherwise!) with celebrity culture.

Enjoy the fruits of our slavish obsessions, thanks for reading, and long live pop culture!
